Elgin in Focus
Meet staff photographer January Ruiz
January Ruiz brings a dynamic and versatile perspective to her role as staff photographer for The Elgin Chronicle. As the owner and photographer of Chaos Illuminated, January’s creative journey began behind the lens on hiking and kayaking adventures, capturing the beauty of the great outdoors. Her passion for photography soon expanded into event and portrait work, where her ability to preserve meaningful moments quickly earned recognition.
While attending school, January discovered the art of editorial and photojournalism under the guidance of a trusted instructor. This transformative experience unlocked her talent for storytelling through imagery, a skill she now brings to documenting the vibrant life of Elgin, Texas.
Her first assignment for The Elgin Chronicle was to capture the essence of the recent Día de los Muertos festival in Elgin, and her stunning images brought the vibrancy and cultural richness of the event to life. It was a powerful start to her journey with the publication, and her work received high praise for its depth and artistry.
Her work reflects her love for the people, stories, and spirit of Elgin can be found here. See her latest, Headed Home on a Golden Afternoon" below.
