Breaking News

Hey Y'all - Here's the latest.

The Chronicle celebrated its first year of life this past October. We had our ups and downs, as you might imagine, but the experience was well worth it. We learned a lot!

Thanks to the downtown businesses that supported us along with direction and encouragement from Elgin's Main Street program we were able to prove our advertising model, drive foot traffic to downtown, and recruit some great community journalists.

At its core, The Elgin Chronicle operates like a traditional community magazine—featuring profiles of local makers, coverage of city events, and stories that celebrate our city. What’s different is what happens behind the scenes. Each story doubles as a precision-targeted advertising vehicle. When a reader in the area opens an article about, say, the Luna Market or the LoFi Coffee House, the Chronicle engine delivers hyper local location-aware messages to nearby phones and streaming devices.

Those ads don’t just spread awareness—they also have the ability to measure how many viewers physically visit downtown Elgin after viewing the ads.

That linkage between story and storefront is what sets The Chronicle apart. It transforms local journalism from a cost center into an engine of measurable economic development.

We're recruiting community contributors so if you know any creative writers, musicians with videos, photographers looking for a place to show their work pleas have them get in touch at admin@elginchronicle.com. We're taking submissions for 2026 right now.

We're in the process of refreshing this website. Look for its debut and an updated community calendar in February.
